Simon Says, "Just Tell" is
a live marionette production about a young girl in an abusive
situation with her uncle. The audience is taken through a day in the
life of the little girl and her family as several messages are
conveyed, including lessons about strangers, telephone safety, and
how to recognize, avoid and disclose sexual abuse (the uncle's
"secret games").
Presented in a
non-threatening way,
Simon Says, "Just Tell"
is filled with all the fun and
excitement of a Broadway musical. This 36-minute, live production
comes complete with multiple-set staging, a high-quality sound
system and a sound track created by a top Hollywood composer.
The
hand-crafted marionettes were produced by Virginia's own Regina
Marscheider, an extremely talented artist, who has designed more
than 500 hand-size to life-size puppets. The marionettes were
also co-designed by Hollywood's Fred Spencer, an animatronix and
special effects producer, known for his work in movies including
Star Wars, Beetlejuice and Bram Stoker's
Dracula. It is no wonder that
Simon Says, "Just Tell"
won the Emmy for
Best Educational Documentary from the National Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences in 1993. |
Instructional Video and Manual
The Emmy award-winning instructional video
and manual, Go Ahead and Tell, is a must-see for every educator
prior to the show. The curriculum instructs teachers and counselors
how to recognize, respond to and follow-up with sexually abused
children.
The Performance
Simon Says, "Just Tell"
teaches children that not all adults deserve their trust.
Children learn how to tell and to whom they should tell if they are
being abused, as well as how to avoid danger whenever possible.
The Safety-Net
Official representatives from law enforcement agencies, child
protective services and/or school guidance offices remain on-site
during the program to ensure that professional support is available
when needed.
